Member of Parliament for Subin, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has called for calm, maturity, and responsible leadership within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as it navigates the challenges of being in opposition.
His comments come in the wake of the party’s decision not to rerun its parliamentary primary in the Ablekuma North Constituency, a contest that had been slated for July 11, 2025.
Speaking in an interview with Peace FM, Mr. Boakye Antwi stressed the importance of exercising patience and respecting due process, particularly when engaging with the Electoral Commission (EC).
He expressed concern over the recent attacks on the EC by some members of the party, describing such actions as unwarranted and counterproductive.
“The EC cannot be pressured,” he stated. “The extent to which some members are attacking the Commission is unacceptable. According to the constitution, the EC’s authority is independent and not subject to interference.”
He urged party members to thoroughly assess the situation in the 19 polling stations within the constituency and strategize carefully to secure victory rather than rushing into conclusions or confrontations.
Mr. Boakye Antwi also noted that any lawful decision taken by the EC would ultimately be backed by the courts, adding that hasty decisions without proper deliberation could harm the party’s credibility and electoral prospects.
He concluded by reaffirming that the rerun will indeed take place to ensure parliamentary representation for the Ablekuma constituency.
He appealed to party leadership and grassroots supporters to adopt a more mature and measured approach, insisting that the NPP has the capacity to perform better with the right leadership.
