The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has instructed constituency executives of the Offinso South Constituency to immediately suspend some party individuals who were involved in invoking curses on the National Executive Council and the incumbent member of parliament, Abdullah Banda.
Some NPP supporters in the constituency on Friday June 5 2020 performed rituals and invoked curses on the party leadership for disqualifying their preferred candidate, Francis Owusu-Akyiaw from the primaries.
Addressing the media at a press briefing today, General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu expressed disappointment at the conduct and described it as “alien” to the party adding “the party does not condone such practices”.
“Accordingly, the party is instructing the executives in the constituencies where this unfortunate incidence happened to immediately suspend all those involved in this awkward behaviour while instituting appropriate disciplinary actions against them in line with article 3 and 4 of the constitution. We are going to enforce to the letter”, Mr. Boadi said.

The general secretary explained that although the party was yet to announce the decision, after several deliberations by the NEC, some of the candidates have been engaging with the party leadership and have even agreed to “graciously withdraw from the primaries”.
“These are candidates that are active loyal members of the party. There are a lot of them that have come to us for discussions”, he hinted.
As such he found it very strange that “ordinary party members” who were not abreast with the developments would engage in such an act.
“We will make sure that rules and regulations particularly, disciplinary measures are instituted to instill discipline in our party. It cannot be said that a noble party like the New Patriotic Party will have members exhibit such crust and crude behaviour against their own party.”
