Ipswich Leads, Forest Comes Back
Ipswich, who are in the Championship League, scored first in the 53rd minute when George Hirst found the net. Ipswich made the most of a set-piece, with Ben Johnson’s corner finding Hirst open. Hirst’s header went past the goalkeeper, Matz Sels, making Ipswich fans hope for an upset against the Premier League team.
But Forest answered about 15 minutes later. Elliot Anderson passed to Anthony Elanga, who crossed into the box. Ryan Yates jumped highest and headed the ball in, tying the game and giving Forest some momentum. Yates thought he had another goal in the 75th minute, but it was called off because of offside.
Chances Missed, Extra Time Battle
The first half didn’t have many good chances. Ibrahim Sangare’s header went just wide. Nottingham Forest had trouble getting past Ipswich’s defense, while Ipswich looked threatening at times. Sam Morsy tried a long shot from 35 yards, but Sels barely tipped it over the bar.
As the game went on, Forest put on more pressure. Murillo hit a hard shot from 25 yards that Palmer saved, and Callum Hudson-Odoi hit the crossbar. Neither team could score in extra time, leading to a penalty shootout.
Forest Win on Penalties
With the game tied, the teams went to penalties. Both teams made their first nine shots, but then Jack Taylor from Ipswich stepped up. Sels, the Forest goalie, guessed right and saved the shot, winning the shootout 5-4 for his team.
Forest to Quarter-Finals
Nottingham Forest now plays Brighton in the quarter-finals. England manager Thomas Tuchel watched the game, which was slow at first but got really exciting in the second half. Ipswich lost, but they played well against a team from a higher league.
