The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has assured that the practice of LGBTQ+ will not have a place in his government or within the Ghanaian communities should he be given the mandate to lead the country come December 7 elections.
According to the former president, his faith does not permit same-sex marriage, nor does it endorse human-animal relationships, and therefore will give no room to the act when voted into power.
During his Mahama Fellowship with the Clergy on Tuesday, the NDC’s 2024 presidential flagbearer reiterated his commitment to stand against any attempt to promote same-sex marriage and its related activities should he gain the mandate to lead the country again.
Mr. Mahama also criticized the Akufo-Addo-led government for the deliberate refusal to assent to the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values bill passed by parliament.
Mr. Mahama said he would ensure religious tolerance is deepened and partner with the churches to engage in income-investment activities to support the church.
He said the next NDC government will introduce a government-church partnership programme to incentivize faith-based institutions to engage in community development projects such as continuing to render health services, participating in the education of Ghanaian children, providing clean water, and youth empowerment in society.
