Chairman of Parliament’s Energy Committee, Emmanuel Kwasi-Bedzrah, has reassured the public that there is no immediate risk of spillage at the Akosombo Dam.
Speaking to journalists during a tour of the facility, he explained that the current water levels remain within safe limits and pose no threat to operations at the hydroelectric power station.
“We will not experience any spillage for now. The water levels are okay,” Mr. Kwasi-Bedzrah said. “We all know the rains are coming, but we are still under the level required for spillage. We are not up to 2.8; we are below 2.7. So, there will not be any spillage.”
He further assured residents and communities along the Volta Lake that Parliament’s Energy Committee is monitoring the situation closely and will provide timely updates should conditions change.
“We want to assure Ghanaians that there is no cause for alarm. The Akosombo Dam is safe, and we are committed to ensuring that the public is kept informed every step of the way,” he added.
The assurance comes amid heightened public concerns over possible flooding following recent heavy rains in parts of the country.
