The National Health Insurance Authority Monday commenced its annual week-long celebrations with a call on members to ensure they link their cards to the Ghana Card.
The linkage forms part of the government’s quest to make the Ghana Card the sole source of identification for persons living in Ghana and for accessing public services in the country.
Speaking on the Atlantic wave Monday as part of activities to commemorate the weeklong celebration on the theme: NHIS using Ghana card for expanding access to health care, the Regional Director of the NHIA, Mr. Fred Appiah stated that Ghana card will be used to access healthcare in the near future and urged all customers to embrace and participate in the linkage.
He indicated that “for now, we are going to use the Ghana Card and the NHIS cards side by side but the ultimate is that the Ghana card will be the one we are going to use to access healthcare. so, we are going to promote that members try as much as possible to link their cards. Once they link the cards, going forward, we are not going to use the NHIS card but we will be using the Ghana card to access healthcare”.
On his part, the Regional Operations Manager, Samuel Otoo also noted that the linkage of cards will allow free flow of operation and hasten service delivery across all centers.
“Our daily operations require us to print cards for our membership enrolments. Occasionally, we run short of those cards and when that happens, we have to rely heavily on mobile renewal of our cards. But with the linkage of the Ghana card and NHIS card, we can now electronically generate the NHIS card and immediately link to the Ghana card such that even where we fail to print NHIS hard cards, we still use the Ghana card that has been linked to access health” he emphasized.
