Professor Denis Worlanyo Aheto was officially inducted as the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) on January 1, 2025, for a three-year term.

The ceremony took place at the University’s Academic Board Chamber.

He succeeds Professor Mrs. Rosemond Boohene in this role.

His appointment followed a special meeting of the university’s Governing Council on Thursday, December 19, 2024.

Addressing the faculty, staff and students, the newly inducted Pro-Vice Chancellor pledge to create an environment that is conducive to learning, research and innovation and work tirelessly to ensure that UCC remains a hub of academic excellence where the students can thrive and reach their full potential.

The immediate past Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Mrs. Boohene, reflected on the significant achievements during her tenure, including the launch of new programmes, enhanced international partnerships, and strengthened industry collaborations.

She acknowledged that these successes were accomplished despite challenges such as budgetary constraints, policy changes, and the need to adapt to the demands of digital transformation.

Professor Boohene also extended her heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Professor Denis Worlanyo Aheto as he takes on the responsibility of supporting the Vice-Chancellor in leading the university.

She praised him for the wealth of experience, fresh perspective, and passion for excellence that he brings, expressing confidence that these qualities will undoubtedly drive the University of Cape Coast to even greater success.

“I am confident that under your leadership, the University will continue to flourish and expand its impact locally and globally. I urge you to build upon the strong foundations laid by those who came before us, and to pursue innovative paths that align with the evolving needs of the academic world and the society at large,” she urged.

On behalf of the University Governing Council and management, Vice-Chancellor Professor Johnson Nyarko Boampong congratulated Professor Aheto on his appointment, acknowledging his hard work and commitment to the university.

He expressed confidence that Professor Aheto would bring an open mind and loyal heart to the role, working together to create a legacy the entire university can be proud of.

“Leverage on the existing good working relationships we have enjoyed in the time past and use your office to promote unity and peaceful co-existence. The University of Cape Coast is all we have and we must resolve to make it a better place than we came to meet it”

The Vice Chancellor also emphasized the shared goal of transforming UCC into an institution capable of addressing societal challenges, achievable only through unity. He encouraged Prof. Aheto to reach out whenever necessary and expressed openness to innovative, constructive ideas that will propel the university to greater heights.

He further shared his satisfaction and pleasure in working with Prof. Mrs. Boohene over the past three years, highlighting the tremendous benefits he has gained from her wise counsel, commitment, and dedication to the university’s vision.

He assured her that he would not hesitate to reach out when needed.

Before this appointment, Prof. Aheto held several key roles at the university, including serving as the Director of the Centre for Coastal Management – The Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (ACECoR), UCC.
