The Acting Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare, has put his support behind the organizers of the #FixTheCountry protest and promised them of utmost protection.
This was stated in a news statement issued by the Economic Fighters League on Monday, August 2, after a meeting with the newly appointed IGP and other members of the police top hierarchy in Accra.
Mr. Akuffo Dampare convened the meeting to “assure protestors of utmost security from the beginning to the conclusion of the August 4 #FixTheCountry demonstration.”
In response, the conveners informed the IGP of the protest’s planned routes and intentions to guarantee adherence to Covid-19 procedures by training marshals who would enforce compliance.
The conveners also asked the Inspector General of Police whether there would be counter-demonstrations and the use of water canons on Wednesday, to which he replied that there would not be.
They concluded the meeting by promising the IGP and all Ghanaians that the demonstration would be peaceful and that anybody who arrives with the purpose to cause a disturbance will be turned over to law enforcement for further punishment.
The demonstration will begin at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchange and go past the Farisco Traffic Light towards the TUC-Kinbu Senior High School route.
It will come to a conclusion at Black Star Square.
