The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has firmly stated its non-support for the Electoral Commission’s plan to conduct general elections in November 2024.
Dr. Bossman Asare’s announcement, claiming 60% support at the recent Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting, was dismissed as misleading, with the NDC asserting that a consensus for major electoral reforms in 2028 had been established.
In a statement issued on January 30 and signed by its Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the party clarified that out of the ten political parties at the IPAC meeting, at least five opposed the change of date for elections to November 2024.
The party urges the EC to focus on pressing matters and calls for a return to IPAC’s tradition of consensus-building on electoral reforms.
The NDC further underscored the need for the EC to prioritize releasing the 2024 election calendar for transparent and fair elections in December 2024.
