The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has raised concerns about the integrity of the Electoral Commission’s (EC) IT system following admissions made during a Special Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on October 1, 2024.
These concerns come as the country prepares for the 2024 general elections, sparking fears that IT vulnerabilities could potentially compromise the electoral process.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, October 1, signed by the NDC’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the party pointed out several issues from the meeting, including what it described as a “vulnerable EC IT system susceptible to data manipulation and infiltration.”
Speaking on Adom FM, NDC Deputy Director of Elections Mahdi Gibril emphasized, “If these flaws are not addressed, the credibility of the December 2024 elections could be at risk.”
He stated that the IPAC meeting revealed “issues and challenges with the entire IT system of the Electoral Commission.”
Mr. Gibril noted that the EC’s acknowledgment of taking corrective steps regarding the errors in the voters’ register “vindicates the NDC’s position that the register in its current state is unfit for the upcoming elections.”
He urged the public to “disregard the notion that the NDC lacks evidence to support claims of errors in the register.”
