The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has contributed GHS10,000 to the family of an 11-year-old boy who was reportedly murdered for ritual purposes by two teenagers in Amanfro, Ga South.
Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the NDC’s 2020 Vice Presidential Candidate, rendered the donation on behalf of the party and its 2020 flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said the tragic event needs a national soul-searching of the country in a social media post after visiting the family on Tuesday, April 13, 2021.
“We made a small contribution of GHS10,000.00 to the family on behalf of former President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC. This heinous episode necessitates national soul-searching and an open inquiry into our country’s direction,” she wrote.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also prayed for Allah’s protection over his family, particularly during this holy month of Ramadan.
The party has also urged the government to expedite the inquiry and trial of all those implicated in the murder.
Fast-tracking the procedures, according to the group, would ensure that Ghanaians are not constantly reminded of and hurt by the unfortunate event.
“The National Democratic Congress expects the responsible authority to ensure that the bereaved family is comforted by the speed at which the legislation is applied to prosecute the suspects and anybody else who might be involved in this heinous murder.”
“In this respect, we call on the Akufo-Addo administration to expedite inquiries and turn the wheels of justice so that the nation can be free of the odious reminder of this tragic event,” the party said in a statement signed by Kakra Essamuah, its Director of Communications.

The deceased was reportedly tricked into an unfinished house by the youths, who hit his head with a club and cement bricks, murdering him instantly.
They then buried him inside the structure.
The perpetrators planned to retrieve the corpse at midnight for the alleged rites, according to police.
After the news broke last week, it has remained a hot subject for national debate, with many people lamenting the rise of similar crimes around the world.
Following the killing, the Kasoa Divisional Police Command detained the teenagers Felix Nyarko and Nicholas Kini.
Two other individuals have been apprehended, including a traditional priestess.
