The Director of Elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has said the party is focused on filing a Right to Information request to the Electoral Commission (EC) to seek details about the missing laptops and Biometric Verification Devices (BVD).
He said the EC’s claim that the missing laptops and BVDs will not have any implications on the integrity and transparency of the December 7th General Elections does not sit well with the NDC party.
Speaking on JoyNewsfile on Saturday, he argued that the Electoral Commission lied to Ghanaians that no BVDs were missing and has not also shown commitment to letting stakeholders know the full extent of the theft case.
Dr. Omane Boamah therefore assured that the NDC will also ask for an independent audit of the EC’s IT system in addition to the filling of a Right to Information request.
He said “We will file an RTI on this. We will also send the questions officially, one more time to the EC and we will push to the farthest extent. As our national chairman has indicated, an independent audit of the EC’s IT system will be non-negotiable,”
Meanwhile, the Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe insists the missing laptops have no information on them that pose threats to the upcoming elections.
He revealed that individuals suspected to be involved in the alleged theft of these missing BVDs have been picked up by the police for further investigations and the necessary actions to be taken.
He mentioned that investigations in that regard begun a month ago and if the suspects are found guilty they will be made to pay for stealing state property.
