Former Member of Parliament for North Dayi, George Loh has called for concerted efforts to empower the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) to deliver on its mandate as their impact in the just ended population census exercise in the country was not significantly felt.
According to him, the NCCE which is tasked to educate citizens on the importance of national exercises such as the population census has not lived up to its expectation due to inadequate resources.
“In any exercise that we want to do, the NCCE which should be the forerunner is never considered an important partner. During the covid, they had to be allocated vehicles from other institutions and they have taken the vehicles back, so how do we expect them to work?” He inquired.
Speaking on the just ended population census, Mr. Loh says the Ghana Statistical Service’s only duty in the exercise should have been the counting of people with NCCE leading the exercise with proper public education.
He believes that such inactions account for many unsuccessful projects in the country explained that “every successful national project will be better delivered if it is led by proper understanding and education”.
