The Presidency has confirmed the deaths of the Minister of Defence, the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, and six others in a military helicopter crash that occurred earlier this afternoon, August 6, 2025, in Adansi Akrofuom.
In a short press briefing at the Jubilee House, Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah announced that Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed have been confirmed dead at the crash site in the Ashanti region.
Earlier today, the Ghana Armed Forces issued a statement that one of its military helicopters had gone missing.
According to Mr. Debrah, six others on board the aircraft have also been confirmed dead.
The remaining six are:
• Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limona: Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator and former Minister for Food and Agriculture
• Dr. Samuel Sarpong: Vice-Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
• Mr. Samuel Aboagye: Former Parliamentary Candidate
• Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala
• Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu
• Sergeant Ernest Addo-Mensah
Mr. Debrah extended condolences and sympathies to the families of the deceased, honoring their service to the country.
As a mark of respect, all flags across the nation have been directed to fly at half-mast until further notice.
Further details surrounding the cause of the crash are expected to be released following an official investigation.
