A high-stakes anti-narcotics operation in Oyarifa, a suburb of Accra, has led to the arrest of a 56-year-old Nigerian national, Uchechukwu Chima, who was found in possession of a massive stash of illegal drugs valued at over $2.1 million.
The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), acting on intelligence, stormed Chima’s residence on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, uncovering 192kg of cocaine and 0.42kg of heroin. Field tests later confirmed the substances, which NACOC says would have had devastating effects if they had reached the streets.
According to a statement signed by Francis Opoku Amoah, Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations, Chima had been under close surveillance for some time and is believed to be connected to previous drug trafficking incidents in Ghana.
“NACOC, through this seizure, has removed a substantial quantity of drugs from circulation, preventing countless lives from being ruined by drug abuse,” the statement said.

The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue.
This latest bust marks a significant win for Ghana’s security agencies in their fight against the regional drug trade. NACOC has since reiterated its commitment to dismantling trafficking networks and protecting the country’s borders from illicit drug activity.
