The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially announced Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as the vice-presidential candidate alongside the party’s presidential hopeful, John Dramani Mahama, for the forthcoming 2024 presidential elections.
This announcement comes after a meeting held by the party’s Council of Elders and National Executive Committee (NEC) on Thursday, March 7, 2024, where they deliberated on and subsequently endorsed her nomination, initially proposed by Mr. Mahama on February 27, 2024.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang, who previously served as the Minister of Education and was Mr. Mahama’s running mate in the 2020 elections, has been praised for her contribution to the political landscape.
The General Secretary of the NDC, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey speaking to the press indicated that Professor Opoku-Agyemang’s selection reaffirms the party’s commitment to promoting inclusivity, diversity, and the significant role of women in leadership positions.
Mr. Kwetey emphasized her vast qualifications, experience, and the depth of knowledge and expertise she brings to the NDC’s presidential bid.
The NDC’s presidential candidate, John Mahama, expressed his pride and confidence in having Professor Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate. He lauded her integrity, dedication, and vision for a better Ghana as crucial qualities that make her an ideal partner in leading the party towards victory in the upcoming elections.
