Ghanaian music sensation, Wutah Kobby has mentioned that the music profession has no age limit, thus registering his displeasure towards fans who retire artistes.
Usually, in the Ghanaian context, an artiste is said to have been retired by the fans when they no longer patronize the product of the artiste and tag them as being defunct or not too good like they used to be.
Most times, just because a musician has been in the system for a long time, Ghanaians will write them off and put them ‘out of work’, and he thinks it is about time a stop is put to that.

Wutah Kobby was quite animated in an interview with Graphic Showbiz when he argued music profession has no age limit hence, nobody or fan must retire an artiste because they are well to do in years in the game.

“Personally, I don’t think anybody has the right to make a creative stop working. Artistes should have the freedom to continue creating and performing as long as they want, regardless of age” he explained.
Drawing a comparison between Sports and music, he indicated that professions within the sporting fraternity are marked by age limit, however, the same cannot be said for the music industry.
“The music profession has no age limit like let’s say sports, where an athlete, boxer or footballer retires due to old age. The story is different with us. We have no restrictions. Music is life; music is with us from birth and will be with us till death” he added.
“The Chiochio” hitmaker, further explained that in recent times, some old musicians like Yvonne Chaka Chaka and the likes still rock the stage and get music lovers on their feet, hence confirming his assertion that the music profession is a limitless job that doesn’t “retirement”.
“Recently, Yvonne Chaka Chaka performed in Ghana and you could tell the audience enjoyed her performance. How long has she been doing music? But she still got what it takes to move an audience. Unfortunately, Ghanaians will write older artistes off as if they don’t have any good thing to offer again”.
Wutah Kobby is set to release an EP with at least six songs that features a wide array of artistes in Ghana and is hoping it will gain some good attention back home in Ghana.
