The family of well-known Nigerian actor Mr. Ibu revealed yesterday in a press release that he will be laid to rest on June 28.
Mr. Ibu, whose true name is John Okafor, will be laid to rest in Amuri, Enugu State’s Nkanu West Local Government Area.
The family gave an explanation of the five-day funeral ceremonies and the additional events that will take place days prior to the burial.
There will be a march in his honor on Tuesday, June 25, in his hometown in the state of Enugu.
Then, on Wednesday, June 26, there would be a live entertainment event called Mr. Ibu’s Night, complete with candlelit possession.
At his compound in Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West, on June 27, a wake-keeping ceremony will be held while the burial and funeral rites are being conducted on the 28 of June.
“The Okafor family in Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West LGA in Enugu State wishes to honour the loving memory of our hero and legend John Ikechukwu Okafor who even in death has left a legacy of love, laughter and liveliness.”

“We would appreciate your esteemed presence as we lay to rest our son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and in-law on the 28th of June 2024. Kindly join us as we share the best and last moments with our icon,” parts of the statement read.
At the age of 62, Mr. Ibu passed away on Saturday, March 2.
His breakthrough performance came in the 2004 film Mr. Ibu, and he went on to star in over 200 films, cementing his reputation as a comedic actor in the eyes of many film fans.
He starred in several films, including Ibu in Prison (2006), Police Recruit (2003), Mr. Ibu in London (2004), Husband Suppliers, International Players, and Keziah (2007).
