It was all joy and a momentous occasion as Mothers were allowed to share their motherhood experiences with the public on ATLFM’s Mother’s Day celebration programme held on Sunday, May 12, 2024.
The occasion was dedicated to honouring the incredible women who have shaped lives, touched hearts, and guided their children with their wisdom and love and also expressed the deepest appreciation for all the sacrifices, strength, and unwavering support that mothers provide.
Sharing her motherly experiences, the Chief Administrative Assistant of the Department of Marketing and Supply Chain Management Madam Golder Azamati said mothers are supposed to be unifiers in ensuring that children are nurtured and brought up in the right way possible.
According to her, Mothers are to ensure that the home becomes one devoid of chaos and anything that will ruin the family’s very existence.
She emphasized that a mother’s crucial role as primary caregivers of children should not only be the focus of mothers but also ensure that they observe the different attitudes of their wards and tailor their parenting approach accordingly.
“As a mother you have to make sure that the home is peaceful and making sure that a home is a peaceful one it is too much business because children go to school, they pick certain things from school.”
Madam Golder Azamati tasked mothers to be especially particular about their responsibilities in raising their wards in the face of the challenges posed by social media.
She mentioned that by being attentive, observant and involved, mothers can help their wards develop into responsible and well-adjusted adults.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Registrar at the office of the Registrar, University of Cape Coast, Rose Blankson Austin, described both roles of being a mother and a child as daunting.
However, Madam Rose urged mothers to develop toughness and resilience during challenging times, emphasising discipline and setting good examples.
Additionally, she said “You must learn to sacrifice for the sake of your children in your home…If you cannot sacrifice, then you have no business being a mother.”
She also advised children to stay under instructions and obedience as well as be open with parents despite the freedom they seek to have daily.
“Open up to them. Don’t feel they are old-fashioned and you are new-fashioned. They may be old-fashioned, but the things they know, have experienced and have learnt, you will never have it until you submit yourself to guidance.”
