In the first two months of 2023, the total value of Mobile Money transactions reached ¢264.1 billion, representing a 72.6% increase year on year.
Notwithstanding the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy), this huge surge indicates that Mobile Money transactions are reaching new highs.

According to the Bank of Ghana’s March 2022 Summary of Economic and Financial Statistics, mobile money transactions in January 2023 were projected at 130.1 billion, up from ¢76.2 billion in the same month in 2022.
In February 2023, it increased to ¢134.0 billion. This compares to ¢76.5 billion in the same period in 2022.
In 2022, total Mobile Money transactions will reach a new high of ¢1.07 trillion.

This compares to an estimated record of ¢902.5 billion in 2022.
The largest transactions, according to the statistics, happened in December 2022 and November 2022, when ¢122 billion and ¢117 billion were recorded, respectively.
There were concerns that the E-Levy might have an impact on Mobile Money transactions when it went into effect in May 2022, however this was not the case.
According to the statistics, Mobile Money transactions have increased significantly after the launch of the E-levy in May 2022.
