The Communications Director of the 2024 Bawumia campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to desist from publicly discussing internal party matters, stressing that the party is undergoing an important rebuilding process after the 2024 electoral defeat.
Speaking on Joy News, Mr. Aboagye addressed recent commentary from party members about the reasons behind the NPP’s loss, particularly in the Ashanti Region long considered the party’s stronghold.
He emphasized that while introspection is crucial, it should be conducted privately within the party’s structures and not in the public space.
“Our party is going through a restructure, one of the things we should not do is to be discussing obvious internal issues in the public space, in a manner with which some people have done,” he said.
He also cautioned media practitioners against coaxing party communicators into revealing sensitive internal information, stating, “Internal issues are for internal people. Don’t let the media people coerce you into discussing internal issues.”
Mr. Aboagye, who was a key figure in the Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia campaign, defended the party’s performance and communication strategy, noting that the electoral fortunes of the NPP showed improvement over time.
Referencing past elections, he revealed that unexpected election outcomes were not new in Ghana’s democratic history.
“In 2016, nobody imagined that someone could lose an election by nearly a million votes. Yet, it happened. So, every election has its own dynamics,” he noted.
Touching on broader democratic development, he described Ghana’s political landscape as vibrant and dynamic, attributing electoral shifts to the will of the people and their aspirations at given times.
Dennis Miracles Aboagye also addressed President Mahama’s campaign messaging, particularly on illegal mining (galamsey), accusing the NDC of politicizing a national crisis and undermining efforts to tackle the problem.
He asserted that the NPP warned against such politicization, which he said is now haunting the current administration.
As the NPP embarks on its restructuring journey ahead of the next electoral cycle, Mr. Aboagye called for discipline and unity within the party’s ranks, stressing that the priority now should be offering Ghanaians a credible alternative to the current government.
