Minority Chief Whip Governs Kwame Agbodza has delivered a strong message on the parliamentary floor, emphasizing the urgency of presenting the Free SHS bill for further legislative action.
According to the Minority, failure to do so today, Friday, June 28, will lead to the use of derogatory language against Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
“Today is the deadline for him to bring the bill to the house, and we will criticize him. Inform him before he arrives that if he doesn’t present the Free SHS bill today, we will speak critically of him in this house.”
Despite assertions by the Majority Leader that the Minority opposes the bill, they clarified their stance, advocating instead for resolving existing challenges within the education sector.
The bill seeks to formalize the Free SHS initiative, ensuring its continuity under future administrations.
Additionally, the Minority expressed their intent to scrutinize the bill meticulously, particularly focusing on securing dedicated funding for the Free SHS policy.
Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, Ranking Member on the Education Committee of Parliament, reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the bill’s sustainability and effectiveness, stating, “I will insist on dedicated funding for the Free SHS. That will be my primary concern.”
