President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has assured that all mining activities within the forest areas will be done responsibly to protect the country’s environment.
His comments were made in the wake of concerns raised by some groups about mining of bauxite in the Atiwa Forest.
According to him, mining can and must be done in a responsible manner adding that “government through its regulatory agencies will act to protect our environment at all times.” He said
The President, speaking at the launch of four (4) key projects under the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC), says the EPA has sponsored work to develop a bio-diversity and hydrology study in the Atiwa Forest to guide and inform the EPA on how mining activities are carried out in the forest.

He also indicated that that steps will be taken to ensure that all mining activities are done in a responsible manner in accordance with the country’s regulations.
He was hopeful that the projects would help exploit the country’s bauxite industry to the benefit of Ghanaians in an environmentally friendly manner.
The President also added that the projects would have an impact on the economy, and create jobs and wealth for stakeholders in the industry.
