Headmaster of Mfantsipim School, Rev. Ebenezer Aidoo has called for expansion of the school’s infrastructure to accommodate the expanding students and staff population.
He said although government continues to do a lot for the educational sector in the country, the government cannot do it all, hence the need for other stakeholders to play an active role to ensure the development of the Mfantsepim School.
Speaking at the maiden edition of the “Dwen Hwε Kan Forum” under the theme: “Ensuring educational excellence: the role of stakeholders” ahead of the school’s 146th Anniversary, he noted that the school might face severe infrastructural challenges in the next 10 years if nothing was done about it.
He stressed that “some dormitory blocks, master’s flat…recreation calls for infrastructural reflection.”
Meanwhile, he urged his colleague school heads to be creative and innovative in school management to supplement the efforts governments showed them.
The forum touched on issues relating to academic excellence, infrastructure development, recreation, human resources, and finances and chart a course to a more impactful future as the foremost secondary education institution in the country.
On his part, a former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Prof Philip Ebow Bondzi-Simpson called for enabling and holistic environments to achieve academic excellence.
He mentioned that one way the Mfantsipim School can achieve academic excellence is by looking up the curriculum set up by the West Africa Examinations Council for the purposes of writing and passing WASSCE.
While urging that learning facilities need to be significantly increased, he stated that a case must be made for secondary education to be treated holistically where students’ critical thinking and problem-solving, and project work skills can be developed.
He highlighted the need for the school to focus essentially on equipping all of its staff, notably the academic staff to do their job to bring out the best in the students.
The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, Most Rev. Dr. Paul K. Boafo addressing the gathering also indicated that the church will continue to assist the school in providing value and training to those who receive education from the school.
