The Acting Director-General of the Police Public Affairs Directorate, ACP Mr. Kwesi Ofori has assured of continuous media engagements to ensure the police achieve its aim of rebuilding its image.
This he explains will also ensure the courting of public confidence to fight crime and maintain law and order.
Speaking to the media after a closed-door engagement with media managers and editors by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akufo Dampare in Accra, he said police would be more friendly, accommodating, and open to the media.
He said, “the media has been a traditional ally in spite of the friction and some misunderstanding and as such, it is the view of the IGP, Dr. George Akufo Dampari, and members of his administration, that we have that symbiotic relationship with the media.”
According to him, the IGP pledged to work with the media and all stakeholders to build a strong Police Service, which will follow due process in enforcing the law without infringing on the rights of the citizenry.
ACP emphasized that “we need to listen to the media…you know to air out what the citizens think and what they want the police to be our challenges and shortfalls.”
The meeting was convened to address the working relationship between the media and the police in line with their duty.
