Today marks exactly three years since the Dompoase accident happened. The nation woke up on that fateful to the news of the gory accident that claimed 34 lives and 56 severely injured.
According to the Central Regional branch of the Ghana National Fire Service, they cannot forget the horror of that day and wish never to witness such an incident again.
What is worrying, according to the GNFS is that after all the media publicity and public sympathy, the nation went to sleep and more lives continue to be lost on the same road and no major change has taken place on that road.
Based on this, the Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, DOIII Abdul Wasiu Hudu is calling on media organizations to revive the conversation to help save more lives on our roads for the total development of the country.
Speaking to ATLFMNEWS, DOIII Abdul Wasiu Hudu noted that in 2022 there was a similar accident where 18 people died in the same area. Then in late August, similar accidents in the same area where 15 lives were lost.
“So, after the Dompoase, we have lost almost 40 people on that particular stretch of the road. So, this is why there are calls for concern, all of us should be worried, and the media should also add their voice so that we let people know what is happening there. Because as it stands, all those who travel on this particular road are candidates of the same fate, and we don’t want it to happen,” he continued.
He said road accidents claim more lives in Ghana than any other disease or factor and as such all hands must come on deck to ensure that the necessary measures are put in place.
