Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta Platforms, is forming a team of experts focused on achieving “artificial general intelligence” (AGI), which refers to machines that can match or exceed human capabilities, Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday.
In conjunction with this initiative, Zuckerberg is reportedly investing over $10 billion in Scale AI. Sources indicated that Alexandr Wang, the founder of Scale AI, is expected to join the AGI team once the deal is finalized.
Reuters was unable to immediately verify Bloomberg’s report, and Meta did not respond to a request for comment outside of regular business hours.
Zuckerberg’s plan to personally recruit around 50 individuals, including a new head of AI research for the AGI team, stems partly from frustrations with the performance and reception of Meta’s latest large language model, Llama 4, according to Bloomberg News.

Additionally, last month, Meta postponed the release of its flagship “Behemoth” AI model due to concerns regarding its capabilities, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.
Competitors like OpenAI are also seeking changes to attract further investment in their efforts to develop AGI.
