Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI), Mark Badu Aboagye has called on local business owners to fully leverage the benefits of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to accelerate their growth.
The AfCFTA, which aims to significantly boost intra-Africa trade, particularly in value-added production across all sectors of the continent’s economy, entered into force on May 30, 2019.
With 54 AU member states currently participating and Ghana hosting the AfCFTA secretariat, the trade agreement facilitates efficient business conduct across Africa.
Speaking to City Business News, Badu Aboagye urged businesses to seek necessary consultations and information to benefit from the AfCFTA.
“Every manufacturer, wherever you find yourself, what you are looking for is a market for your product. And that market has been created under this AfCFTA,” he stated.
He encouraged businesses to be proactive in understanding and utilizing the opportunities presented by the AfCFTA stating “If you are really experienced, then once you hear that there is something called AfCFTA, you need to think, how do I take advantage of this AfCFTA? Which institutions do I need to consult or contact to get the necessary information to export under AfCFTA?”
Mr. Badu Aboagye emphasized the importance of businesses aggressively seeking information and leveraging the support of the Chamber of Commerce and other institutions to capitalize on the AfCFTA.
