Manchester United Manager Amorim Speaks Out
Manchester United’s tough Premier League season continued this weekend as they fell 4-3 to Brentford, despite recently shining in the Europa League. Manager Ruben Amorim didn’t hold back after the match, saying the team “needs to change” following another frustrating league defeat. Kevin Schade was the standout for Brentford, scoring twice and helping to hand United their 16th league loss of the campaign. United’s winless streak in the league has now stretched to six games. Strong Start, Disappointing Finish
Amorim made eight changes to the squad that had comfortably beaten Athletic Club 3-0 in the Europa League just days earlier. Despite a promising start and early control, things quickly unraveled. “This match really summed up our season,” Amorim admitted after the game. “We started well, but we struggled with their set pieces and throw-ins. The players need to understand we can’t keep doing this. We know what this season has been like, and we need to fix it.” Manchester United Manager Amorim Speaks Out.
Mount Gets on the Scoreboard
One of the few bright spots for United was Mason Mount, who scored his first goal of the season to give them an early lead. However, a Luke Shaw own-goal and Schade’s first strike put Brentford ahead by halftime. Schade then headed in a second from a Bryan Mbeumo cross, and Yoane Wissa added a fourth, making it 4-1. Late Fightback Shows Some Spirit
United showed more fight than in recent weeks, with Alejandro Garnacho pulling one back in the 82nd minute and Amad Diallo scoring again in stoppage time to make it 4-3. But it was too little, too late.
Amorim praised Mount’s performance: “It’s not just about the goal—he’s playing in a role that lets him get into the box, and he’s very smart about it. He trains super hard sometimes too hard! I even have to stop him from overdoing it. He wants to play more and I love that energy.”
Brentford Boss Delighted
Meanwhile, Brentford manager Thomas Frank was thrilled with his team’s effort and result. “It was a really strong performance,” he said. “We controlled the game from the start, pressed hard, and created lots of chances. Two of our goals were top quality. I’m proud of the team it was a well-earned win against a huge club like Manchester United.”
