Ernesto Yeboah who was arrested by the police for organizing a vigil in memorial of the late George Floyd has been granted a bail of 100,000 cedis with one surety.
Mr. Yeboah, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters was arrested on Saturday night at the Black Star square in Accra in the middle of what the group described as “solidarity with the Black Lives matter protest in America”.
The police said the gathering was in breach of the Executive Instrument on Restriction on public gathering and social distancing and also for defying the Public Order Act.
But Mr. Yeboah and his freedom fighters said they notified the police ahead of time.
Francis Xavier Sosu, lawyer for Mr. Yeboah in an interview on TV3 said Mr. Yeboah has been released after the caution statement and the charge statement.

According to the lawyer, the Freedom fighters were about sixty-seven (67) and observed all the protocols so they do not agree with the stance of the police for the charges levelled against him.
“It’s quite difficult to understand why he would be charged for not notifying the police”, the lawyer said.
He however added that the police explained that the notice was short, but they have also contested that.
“We are leaving all those things to the court and from tomorrow we are going to prove our innocence”, he added.
George Floyd was a Black American who was killed in Minneapolis when white police pressed his knee on his neck while he laid helpless on the floor handcuffed.
His death has sparked mass protests in the USA with many around the globe condemning his murder.
The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Arts partnered the Diasporan community in Ghana to hold a funeral service in his honour.
