Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, Inspector-General of Police, has advised estate developers to include police stations in their developments.
According to him, most developers do not plan for such amenities, which has an impact on the enforcement of law and order.
Dr. Dampare assured the media and several police officers that the police administration would make personnel available to provide the necessary protection.
“Lands are being shared for both developmental purposes; commercial and residential, and nobody will factor in a place like a police station. They share the whole piece of land and thereafter they have no place for police, and yet they want police to come into that community. We want to urge all and sundry that for everything that we do, if security peace, law, and order are not in place, the equation will not balance.”
The IGP’s suggestion is to assist police in dealing with crime in diverse areas, particularly recently built ones that are prone to crime.
In recent years, several individuals and business organizations have spearheaded the effort to build police stations.
Some of these gestures include Effutu MP Alex Afenyo Markin’s construction of a police station in New Winneba and the Church of Pentecost’s construction of a station in Abram Agona for GH135,000.
