According to a recent study conducted by Global Info Analytics, former President John Dramani Mahama is the preferred presidential candidate heading into the 2024 national elections.
While 53 percent of respondents wanted John Mahama to return, just 30 percent supported Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the NPP’s presidential candidate.
The previous survey issued by the Ghanaian polling company, in January 2022, showed Bawumia and Mahama with 38 and 43 percent, respectively.
This comes after a similar survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit, EIU, projected victory for the NDC but warned that John Dramani Mahama would have to be replaced as flagbearer.
This indicates that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Dr. Bawumia’s ratings have dropped by 8%, while the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Mr. Mahama’s numbers have grown by 10%.
In the NPP primaries, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ranks ahead among his rivals, albeit he is closely followed by Alan Kyeremanten.
Former President John Mahama, on the other hand, is still increasing his lead as the party’s pick for flag-bearer.
While the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and floating voters were enthusiastic about the country’s path, 84 percent and 69 percent, respectively, NPP voters are split in the center, 47 percent to 47 percent for right and wrong direction.
According to the survey, the president’s job approval rating has dropped from 34% in January 2022 to 27% in April 2022.
67 percent of voters disapprove of the president’s job performance, resulting in a net approval rating of 40 percent negative.
Voters think the economy, jobs, and education are the three concerns they would evaluate before voting for a candidate in 2021.
They represented 20.88 percent, 19.28 percent, and 17.24 percent of the economic concerns raised, respectively.
Meanwhile, 46.62 percent of Ghanaians want John Dramani Mahama to return as President.
Mr. Mahama is widely regarded as the best capable of improving job creation, education, and infrastructure.
Dynamic sampling
For the objective of establishing a polling trend, 34 constituencies that were previously selected using a suitable sample were repeated.
A total of 34 new constituencies were chosen at random.
Prior to running the random simulation model to choose the constituencies, the previous constituencies surveyed in January were eliminated.
As a result, the remaining 241 constituencies have an equal probability of selection.
The voters’ registry from the 2020 Electoral Commission was used to assign samples.
Interviews were assigned depending on the total number of registered voters in the constituencies in relation to the 68 constituencies chosen.
The venue for the interview was also chosen at random from one of the constituency’s three electoral zones for each constituency.
The poll included interviews with voters over the age of 16.
