President John Dramani Mahama has taken decisive steps to address tensions in the Sawla-Bole area of the Savannah Region, following reports of renewed conflict between the Gonja and Brifor communities.
In a statement issued by the Presidency on Sunday, August 31, 2025, the President confirmed that he had received a detailed briefing from the National Security Coordinator and the Minister for the Interior upon returning from a state visit to Singapore.
While abroad, the President personally engaged the Yagbonwura, Jira Bikunuto Jewu Soale I, via telephone to discuss measures aimed at restoring peace and stability.
“As part of this peace-building effort, President Mahama has dispatched a government delegation, led by the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohamed-Mubarak, to meet the Yagbonwura and other key stakeholders in the area,” the statement read.
Security has also been reinforced with the deployment of additional police and military personnel to safeguard the area.
The President urged calm and called on all sides to support government’s peace initiatives, noting “We must all come together to end the conflict and restore normalcy,” he emphasized.
According to the Presidency, the government delegation has been directed to work hand-in-hand with the regional security council, traditional authorities, and community leaders to promote dialogue and find lasting solutions.
“The President has instructed the team to engage all stakeholders in peaceful dialogue to resolve outstanding disputes, restore peace, and uphold law and order,” Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President, noted.
The government has assured residents that it remains committed to ensuring safety, law, and order, while fostering harmony among the affected communities.
