President Mahama has apologized to the faith-based organizations for delaying their invitation to the National Education Forum which commenced today, February 18, 2025.
Apologizing on behalf of the planning committee of the forum, the president said this was an “unpardonable omission committed in the delayed invitation to the National Education Forum”
According to the President, the omission was speedily remedied but said the faith-based organizations “still deserved an unqualified apology for this oversight,”
On February 17, The Ghana Catholic Bishop’s Conference (GCBC) and Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) issued a joint statement expressing their disappointment in their exclusion from the National Education Forum.
The prominent religious organizations emphasized that while some organizations associated with them were invited, the GCBC and CCG were excluded.
“Both the GCBC and CCG have a long-standing commitment to the development and welfare of the educational system, and we have consistently worked to ensure that our educational institutions serve the needs of every Ghanaian child, irrespective of their background or beliefs.”
Addressing the issue at the launch of the forum, President Mahama acknowledged the vital role of faith-based organisations as key stakeholders of Ghana’s Education system and issued the apology.
“And since you are the purveyors of God’s mercy on Earth, I’m sure that you have forgiven us… And we know you’re important stakeholders because you own some of the schools, and so this educational forum is important to see how we carry everybody together,” he continued.
