The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), a power transmission company, has announced that it is in talks with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to establish a loadshedding timetable for power outages in certain areas of the country.
The table would indicate when and where power outages are predicted to occur between April and June of this year.
Mr Ebenezer Amankwaah, GRIDCo’s Corporate Communications Manager, confirmed this in an Accra media interview, saying the loadshedding schedule would enable both the ECG and GRIDCo to notify their customers ahead of outages.
Affected towns include those in the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area, Winneba in the Central Region, and the Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Area.
According to him, the schedule will encourage people of the affected areas to better prepare their social lives in order to reduce the negative impact of the outages.

Mr Amankwaah explained the reason for the planned exercise, saying that engineers and contractors operating on transmission lines and bulk delivery points wanted to link power to the grid to relieve the strain on established energy substations.
“The Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) is funding the Pokuase Bulk Supply Point, which is intended to carry some of the loads off the Accra substation.
“Because of population increase and infrastructure construction in Accra, we would require a large number of substations to relieve the pressure on the current ones.
According to Mr Amankwaah, the contractors and engineers working on the tie-in demanded anywhere from four to two weeks to isolate the electricity and conduct the break-in.
