Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai is quickly getting used to Liverpool’s winning vibe. At just 24, he’s making a name for himself in the Premier League. In a chat with Optus Sport, he shared his goals for the future, what life is like at Anfield, and his early days playing alongside Erling Haaland. After joining last season, Szoboszlai has found his groove in a more advanced position, thanks to Slot. With five goals and four assists already, he’s doing well, starting 25 out of 30 league games. Szoboszlai can’t help but feel amazed to play with stars like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. “It’s hard to explain how it feels to play alongside him,” he said about Salah. “Two years ago, I was in Leipzig, and now I’m at one of the best teams in the world.” Liverpool’s Winning Mindset.
Even with that excitement, Szoboszlai points out they see each other as teammates, not just big names. This mindset helps keep everyone focused on winning. He reminisced about his time with Erling Haaland at RB Salzburg, recalling their first Champions League games where they both scored. “We were close, even off the pitch, and we’re still in touch,” he said.
While a treble isn’t possible for Liverpool this season, Szoboszlai believes they can still grab the Premier League title. He’s staying focused, especially with a big game against Leicester on the horizon. “Of course, I’d be lying if I said we’re not thinking about winning the league,” he admitted. “But right now, it’s all about Leicester, and then we’ll see.”
When it comes to challenges off the pitch, Szoboszlai mentioned understanding the accent as his biggest hurdle. “That’s the hardest thing,” he laughed. “I still don’t get a word of what they’re saying, but I’m getting used to it.”
From leading Hungary to chasing trophies at Liverpool, Szoboszlai is showing he’s got the right attitude and skill to thrive in this winning environment.
