Actor and comedian Lil Win, from Ghana, has a message for people who believe that speaking English well demonstrates intelligence and is essential for success.
In a recent interview with Accra’s Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz program, he made the argument that people need to reassess their ideas about success and what it takes to accomplish goals since talent—rather than language proficiency—is the true driver of progress.
Citing his own journey to prominence while battling with English, the actor/producer, who feels the current quo must be challenged, emphasized that one’s ability to speak English is not the sole determinant of their potential.
And that, in his opinion, proves that skill and diligence pay off.

English can never buy land, but talent can buy everything,” he emphasised.
Known for his humorous English accent, Lil Win has starred in films such as Azonto Ghost and John and John. Currently, he is promoting his most recent production, a COUNTRY CALLED GHANA, which stars Paa George of Ghana and Ramsey Nouah, Charles Awurum, and Victor Osuagwu, also known as “Awilo Sharp Sharp,” from Nigeria.
