The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) is calling on government to ease the restriction on religious gatherings.
The GPCC believes churches have the capacity and structures to facilitate proper adherence to the preventive protocols outlined by the Ghana Health Service.
According to them, with Parliamentary sessions, businesses as well trading at the markets amid the corona virus pandemic being allowed, the church could equally ensure members do not contract the virus.
On Wednesday, an executive member of the Council and President of the Full Gospel Church International, Bishop S.N Mensah said possible guidelines could be developed to govern the operation of churches during the pandemic.
“For instance, the church should not be full to 50 per cent capacity, have sanitizers and put in place all the necessary protocols” he suggested.

Recent to add his voice is the President of Perez Chapel, and executive member of the council, Bishop Charles Agyin-Asare. He assured that leaders of the church could ensure an effective communication to members regarding distancing and other preventive directives by the government.
He said most churches were already observing social distancing when Ghana recorded her first few cases in March, 2020.

The Executive member of the council who made the comment on a Kumasi based local medium argued it is possible for churches to observe social distancing just like market women do.
