A Corporate Governance Expert and lecturer at the GIMPA Faculty of Law, Dr. Kwaku Anane- Gyinde, has stressed that it is crucial to depoliticize government business to spur national growth.
Dr. Anane-Gyinde believes with the practice of the multi-party system, divergent views on issues of national interest should be welcomed.
According to him, “We should move beyond NPP and NDC because Ghana is bigger than any political party in this country” adding that if there are talents on the other side, they should be made use of irrespective of the political affiliation.
These comments came in response to concerns that contracts and appointments are exclusively given to individuals who support the government in power.
Dr. Anane-Gyinde was speaking in an interview on GBC on Monday and was monitored by ATLFMNEWS.
In an investigation conducted by TODAY newspaper, it was revealed that the government’s inability to pay contractors on time had caused unemployment and the collapse of some indigenous companies in the country.
Reacting to this development, Dr. Anane- Gyinde indicated that “because all past governments want to satisfy their political constituents, they make a lot of promises ‘I will give you road, and the people clap and they give it to the contractor at a point where I think there is no money.”
He, therefore, admonished that politicians to endeavor to complete projects systematically rather than burdening many projects on contractors who in end will not be paid.
