Ghanaian musical duo Lali x Lola have taken a bold step to advocate for the reinstatement of the Best Performing Group category in the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).
In a recent social media post, the duo emphasized the significant resurgence of talented and impactful music groups in Ghana over the past few years. They highlighted groups like Dope Nation, Keche, Team Eternity, and Bhad Mayors, which have been driving the industry forward with chart-topping hits and dynamic live performances.
Lali x Lola believe that bringing back the Best Performing Group category would honor this creative momentum and encourage greater unity and innovation among artists.

They pointed out that the category was removed in 2022 due to limited competitiveness, as stated by Robert Klah, the Head of Public Events and Communications for Charterhouse and a member of the TGMA board.
However, Lali x Lola argue that the current landscape of the music industry shows a vibrant collective energy that deserves recognition.
The duo has penned a petition to the TGMA board, urging them to consider reinstating the category for the 2025 edition and beyond. They believe that recognizing the collaborative efforts of music groups will inspire greater teamwork and creativity within the industry.
The call for reinstatement has garnered support from various industry stakeholders who also recognize the contributions of these music groups. Lali x Lola hope that their advocacy will lead to a positive change and a renewed appreciation for collective artistry in Ghanaian music.
