Lake Victoria Gets Another Classic Chance with Moore
Lake Victoria is set to lead a strong group of 12 entries for the Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh, where she’ll try to rediscover the electric form she showed as a two-year-old. The Aidan O’Brien-trained filly, a daughter of Frankel, dominated last season with five consecutive victories, including top-tier wins in the Moyglare Stud Stakes, Newmarket’s Cheveley Park Stakes, and the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Del Mar. After a disrupted preparation earlier this year, she returned to action in the English 1,000 Guineas, finishing sixth. While that race ended her unbeaten streak, she was only two and a half lengths behind the winner, Desert Flower, showing she still has plenty to offer.

Moore Remains Confident in Star Filly
Ryan Moore will be back in the saddle for Sunday’s big race and remains optimistic about her chances. Writing in his World Pool blog, Moore shared, “That run should bring her on, and she’ll be much fitter this time. I certainly haven’t lost any faith in her, and I expect her to show her true colours on Sunday.” With the English Guineas runner-up Flight and third-placed Simmering also returning, along with three unbeaten fillies, the Irish 1,000 Guineas promises to be a tightly contested race.
Stacked Field of Talented Fillies
Among the competition is Duty First, who finished ninth in the English Guineas, as well as O’Brien’s second entry, January, making her seasonal debut after placing second to Desert Flower in both the May Hill Stakes and the Fillies’ Mile. Dermot Weld’s Swelter takes a big step up in class after a solid Group Three win at Leopardstown. Donnacha O’Brien’s Atsila has impressed with two wins, including the Athasi Stakes. Also in the mix are City Of Memphis, California Dreamer, Jaliyah, Cercene, and Tamam Desert.
Gold Cup and More Racing Action Ahead
The Tattersalls Gold Cup will see Los Angeles and White Birch battle again, following their thrilling encounter in the Mooresbridge Stakes, where Los Angeles edged it by a neck. White Birch, fresh off an impressive win over Auguste Rodin in the 2024 edition of this race, is expected to be even stronger this time. The British invasion includes Kalpana, Anmaat, Ghostwriter, and Royal Rhyme, all looking to spoil the Irish party. Meanwhile, Porta Fortuna is set to return in the Lanwades Stud Stakes, and rising star Albert Einstein will line up for the Group Three GAIN Marble Hill Stakes, where he’ll look to confirm his status as the Coventry Stakes favourite.
