Some students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Senior High School (KNUST SHS) have given a sequential account of how one their colleague died on Tuesday, 7th July 2020.
Video footage that has gone viral on social media showed the deceased struggling in the care of two other students for nearly three hours while some teachers stood by showing no concern.
Reports say the teachers neglected him out of fear because they suspected he had contracted Covid-19.
Narrating the incidence to Luv FM’s Erastus Asante, one of the students said,
“One of our mates was sick and he was left to his fate to survive on his own because of the fear of coronavirus. Nobody attended to him” the student told Erastus.

Another KNUST SHS student account indicated that he was ill and wasn’t showing any signs since morning till about afternoon time when he clutched onto his stomach and started vomiting.
“He was ill, he wasn’t showing any signs since morning but later in the afternoon around 3 o’clock he started vomiting because he had some stomach ache.”
Another student explained saying “we rushed him to the classroom blocks but it seems the teachers were only waiting for his parents to come so that they could take him to the hospital. He was there for close to three hours before his dad came to pick him up.”
The student was eventually pronounced dead after he arrived at the hospital. News of his death stirred up outrage amongst the students destroying the windscreen of the Head teacher’s car.
It took the intervention of the police to restore calm at the school.
