Special Prosecutor nominee, Mr. Kissi Agyebeng says will make corruption expensive for public sector officials when given the nod to serve as the special prosecutor of the Republic of Ghana.
He indicates his office will introduce a “Pressure for Progress initiative” that will systematically review public institutions and develop an integrity plan in that regard.
Mr. Agyebeng made these declarations when he appeared before Parliament’s Appointments Committee for vetting on Thursday, July 22.
He stated “I am not naïve to assume that I am coming to stop corruption. There is no way I can stop corruption even God Himself will not acclaim to that. But I am going to make corruption very costly to engage in. I am going to institute what I call Pressure for progress and in this quest I am going to institute systemic reviews of public sector institutions and the development of integrity plan”.
The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, nominated Mr. Agyebeng, a law lecturer and private legal practitioner as a replacement for Martin Amidu, who resigned from the position in November 2020.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor has the mandate to investigate and prosecute all suspected corruption and corruption-related offenses pertaining to public officers, politically exposed persons, and persons in the private sector.
