The renal unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital will reopen for patients today, November 6, 2023, barring any last-minute complications.
According to sources close to the development, this decision was made during a meeting last Friday, November 3, where it was unanimously decided that the institution should resume taking outpatients today after months of shutdown.
The facility has not been open to outpatients since May 22, 2023, therefore patients are forced to go for dialysis services elsewhere, usually at private hospitals or facilities.
When the facility partially reopened on September 27, there was a warning that the cost of dialysis treatment will increase from GH¢380 to GH¢765.42 each session.
But the increase was reversed following a public uproar, and the clinic was still only allowed to accept outpatients.
