President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has made significant appointments to the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces.
Chief of Army Staff, Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, will assume the role of Chief of Defence Staff from February 1, 2024, succeeding Vice Admiral Seth Amoama upon his retirement.
President Akufo-Addo expresses gratitude for Vice Admiral Amoama’s dedicated service.
Additionally, Major General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona, Commandant of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College has been appointed as the new Chief of Army Staff, taking over from Major General Oppong-Peprah.
Meanwhile, both appointments are pending consultation with the Council of State as outlined in the provisions of Article 212 of the Constitution of the Republic.
Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communications at the Office of the President, revealed this in an official statement on Wednesday, January 24.
Rear Admiral Issah Adams Yakubu and Air Vice Marshal Frederick Asare Kwasi Bekoe will however maintain their roles as Chief of Naval Staff and Chief of Air Staff, respectively.
