Due to excessive electrical costs, some vendors in the Kejetia market in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, have started closing their stores.
The vendors and the management of the Kejetia market have frequently disagreed over the choice to utilize one bulk meter for the market’s more than 7,000 stores.
Over the years, traders have claimed that they had to pay outrageous electricity costs since the facility’s administration neglected to install individual meters for each business within the market.
Given that the traders’ leadership has placed the blame for the closing of their stores on the facility management, it appears that the issue will not be resolved any time soon.

Nana Akwasi Prempeh, president of the Federation of Kumasi traders, claimed that some merchants have been compelled to close their stores because they are unable to afford the astronomical electricity rates.
The facility’s administration was also held accountable by Nana Akwasi Prempeh for the delay in supplying stores with individual meters.
The institution is behind on more than five million Ghana cedis, according to the management of ECG.
Therefore, ECG is adamant that the facility’s failure to pay its arrears is what has delayed the delivery of the individual meters.
