Recent statistics on the Covid-19 cases in the Central Region indicate that the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem (KEEA) municipality is the now leading the coronavirus case count in the Region with over fifty-six (56) cases overtaking Kasoa.
The Central Region has recorded 192 cases of the Covid-19 becoming the third region with the most recorded cases in the country after Greater Accra and Ashanti regions.
Central Regional Deputy Director of Public health, Dr. Godfred Kwabena Sarpong indicated the surge in the case is a reflection of the enhanced contact tracing and mass community testing of persons.
He, however, expressed worry that gross violation of the Covid-19 preventive protocols in the region is accounting for more community spread.
In an interview on ATL FM’s Atlantic Wave Dr. Kwabena Sarpong mentioned that inferring from a tour to some places in the region, most individuals were not adhering to the social distancing protocols and compulsory wearing of masks despite the fact that they were aware of the coronavirus pandemic in Ghana.
“You get the sense that people know about Covid-19 but they don’t care enough. They simply do not care enough and that for me and for us is very worrying”, he noted.
Dr. Sarpong said although the Ghana Health Service will continue to intensify public education and testing of cases for Covid-19, individuals must act responsibly by observing the protocols in order to contain the virus.

“People will have to be responsible; people must take personal responsibility for their actions and inactions and the police can do so much but if people are not ready to conform and comply with preventive measures, People will have to at a certain point in time take responsibility, collectively, all of us”, he stated.
He said even though the Covid-19 preventive protocols must be enforced, it cannot be the sole the sole responsibility of the police.
“How many people can the police arrest? The police force how many are they? Can they be everywhere enforcing social distancing protocols? They can’t be everywhere, every time”.
He warned that until individuals act responsibly, “we are going to see a lot more community spread.”
Ghana’s case count of the virus now stands at 5, 408, 514 recoveries and 24 deaths.
