Occupy Ghana and the Media Coalition Against Galamsey have announced that they would soon begin a prayer protest to compel Parliament into passing legislation that forbids drilling and mining in Ghana’s forest reserves.
The protests are in response to popular outrage that High Street Mining Company Limited had been given mining rights in the Central Region’s Kakum National Park.
In an interview with Citi News that was monitored by ATLFM, Ken Ashigbey, Convener of the Media Coalition Against Illegal Mining, said that regulations will obstruct future developments by mining companies, despite the Minerals Commission’s rejection of this.

“We are also contemplating a protest where we can rally Ghanaians together. We can make it a prayer protest. ”
“We will call on the Christian Council, call on the Pentecostal Council, the Catholic Bishops Conference, and the office of the Chief Imam. So as we go on with our protest and march and present our petition, we will do it in a way that is solemn and prayerful,” he said.
