Ghanaian actress and Model, Yvonne Nelson has ignited a call on Ghanaians to join her in a vigil against the resurging power crisis, commonly known as “dumsor,” plaguing Ghana.
In a passionate plea on her social media platforms, the actress expressed that she never anticipated the return of “dumsor”, citing its detrimental impact on the nation’s progress and development.
“It is with a heavy heart and deep concern for the welfare of our dear nation that I address the resurgence of the power crisis, commonly known as Dumsor, in Ghana. As a proud Ghanaian and advocate for positive change, I never anticipated the return of such a debilitating issue, let alone another prolonged duration,” she wrote in a statement on X.
Recalling the impactful “DumsorMustStop” campaign she spearheaded in 2015 alongside prominent figures like Kofi Bentil of Imani Ghana, Prince David Osei, and musician Sarkodie, Nelson extended an open call to all Ghanaians, organizations, and legal professionals who are willing to join her in pushing a meaningful action to address the power crisis.
According to her, there is a need for collective action to demand transparency and decisive measures from authorities.
While awaiting a response from Imani Ghana regarding a potential vigil, Nelson stressed the non-partisan nature of the cause and emphasized that together Ghanaians can make their voices heard and compel leaders to prioritize their needs.
“Together, we can make our voices heard and compel our leaders to prioritize the needs of the Ghanaian people. I appeal to lawyers, volunteers, and concerned citizens to contribute their expertise and support in planning and executing this event because Yvonne Nelson can’t do it alone,” she noted.
The resurgence of “dumsor” in recent weeks has sparked widespread concern among Ghanaians, prompting calls for the Energy Ministry to provide an official timetable to keep consumers informed.
Despite assurances from government officials, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, of imminent solutions to the energy challenges, the urgency for action remains paramount.
