Former President John Dramani Mahama has formally accepted to be the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) promising to lead the party to a resounding victory in 2024.
While delivering his acceptance speech at the University of Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale following the party’s Presidential and Parliamentary primaries held on Saturday, 13th May 2023, where he won by 98.9 percent he said “With profound, I humbly accept to be the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress.”
He appreciated the party for the vote of confidence reposed in him as a man of experience and vision to lead the party to victory.
According to him, winning the 2024 General election will help the party build the country every Ghanaian wants.
“As I crisscross the length and breadth of this country clocking about 13,000 Km I was reminded at every stage of the journey of the enormity of the job that is ahead of us. I accept this onerous responsibility placed on my shoulders with absolute humility and a deep sense of respect for the tough tasks that lie ahead in resetting our beloved nation Ghana to one that allows us to regain our lost glory,” he said.
According to the newly elected NDC Flagbearer, the victory he garnered in his party’s internal elections is about the creation of a society that allows Ghanaians to live decent and dignified life.
He also believes it is about expanding access to health care so that mothers and sisters will not die in the process of carrying out their biological duty of procreation.
“It is about the little children whose promising future is cut short because of a dangerous boat crossing in search of an education. It is also about managing our economy and finances in a manner that does not require us to appropriate the lifetime investments of our retired senior citizens and the middle class…,” he added.
He however indicated that for these plans to become a reality, the NDC must win the 2024 polls and this he noted requires hard work on the part of party faithfuls, in addition to winning the trust of Ghanaians.
